Pellet smoked pork steaks

Updated: Jul 15, 2023

You do not need to spend tons on high-end steak to end up with delicious BBQ for a fraction of the cost

Prep Time:

15-20 minutes

COOK TIME

2 hours

Ingredients

Pork butt/shoulder 1/2 inch - 3/4 inch thick slices

Kosher salt

Killer Hogs BBQ rub

Maple BBQ Sauce

Tin foil

Directions

About 3 hours before you plan on cooking the pork steaks pull them from the fridge and lightly season them with kosher salt for a dry brine

When ready to cook preheat the smoker to 225 degrees with pellets of choice

Season pork steaks with Killer Hogs BBQ rub generously on all sides

Smoke at 225 until the pork steaks hit 145 and then bump the smoker up to 250 degrees. Then lightly glaze with BBQ sauce on top and sides. Close the smoker and then in 15 minutes flip the pork steaks over and glaze the other side with BBQ sauce. Close the smoker for another 15 minutes

At this point, the pork steaks should be close to 160-165 degrees. Remove pork steaks, wrap them in foil and bump the smoker up to 325 degrees

Leave in the smoker for another 15 minutes until it hits180-185 degrees. Remove from smoker rest for a few minutes, then serve and enjoy!

My thoughts on this recipe.....

I have seen several of these made recently and have seen different ways to cook them. I wanted to put my own spin on it. The end result was a glorified Chinese spare rib to the next level! My wife and I looked at each other and could not believe how moist they were and it was such a different way to enjoy a pork butt without having to smoke it for 8+ hours.
